Policyholder Update 1 October 2009

Dear Policyholder,

I am pleased to inform you that another item of the reattribution has now been settled. The size of the inherited estates, on which your payments for those who accepted the Aviva offer, has been determined as £1.251 billion.

You may recall that the value was to be decided on the average of the value of the estates as at the end of June, July and August 2009. These were £1.163 billion in June, £1.251 billion in July and £1.336 billion in August.

It is Aviva's intention to move ahead as quickly as possible with payments and we understand that these are expected to begin in early November with the majority being completed by the end of the year.

As we noted in our update of 18 September we will tell you when the full written judgement from Mr Justice Norris is available, as well as when we complete our summary of court proceedings.
