Philip Richards
Philip Richards is a partner of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. He specialises in mergers and acquisitions, governance and other corporate advisory and transactional work for a wide range of clients, and has worked particularly in the insurance and fund management sectors, for utility companies, and for private equity investors.
Philip is a senior partner in Freshfields Financial Institutions sector group, and has advised on a number of significant transactions in this sector including, the introduction of corporate capital to Lloyd’s of London, the merger of Scottish Widows with Lloyds TSB and of Scottish Amicable with Prudential, AMP’s joint venture with Virgin Group to create Virgin Direct (including Virgin Direct’s joint venture with RBS), the demutualisation of AMP, the takeovers of Pearl Group and of Henderson Investors by AMP and of M&G by Prudential and the sale of M&G Re by Prudential to Swiss Re.
Philip read law at Lincoln College, Oxford, and joined Freshfields in 1978. For 5 years until 2005 he was the managing partner of Freshfields’ office in Italy.
