Welcome to the policyholder advocate’s website

This site was launched on 3 June 2009 to coincide with the mailing of offer letters in respect of Aviva’s offer to buy out Aviva with-profits policyholders' interests in the inherited estates of two of its funds - CGNU Life Assurance and Commercial Union Life Assurance Company Limited. This is known as a ‘reattribution of inherited estate’. On 18 September 2009 Mr. Justice Norris, the High Court judge presiding, having heard evidence on 14 to 16 September, agreed that the fund transfer and reattribution could proceed. On 1 October 2009 Aviva announced that some 805000 customers had accepted the offer which would cost the company some £470million. The value of the reattributed estate was £1250 million. Mr. Justice Norris’s written judgement was handed down on 16 October (see ‘Home page’> ‘Latest News’ inside).
